I am a guy who is passionate about many things. First on my list is Jesus then nothing else comes close to my second passion: My family. Yes, there are times when we feel exhausted and can't answer another question/change another diaper/clean up another mess/ etc., but we wouldn't trade it for anything (except maybe an all expenses paid trip to a South Pacific island).
There are things that my kids do or say that add much humor and insight to life. In fact, they often teach us lessons that we couldn't learn anywhere else. For instance:
Deacon, now that he is finally potty trained, loves wearing his superhero underwear. The only problem is that all of the good superhero graphics are on the backside of them. No problem. He simply wears his underwear backward so he can look down and see his superhero friends.
Reynolds has become our child of compassion. Last night when I came home from a high school basketball game, the house was strangly dark. As I walked in and noticed most of the lights turned off, my wife explained to me that Reynolds had turned them off to save the earth. Earlier Kellie found her stashing away $1 bills from her piggy bank. When she asked Reynolds what she was doing she told her that she was gathering money for all of those poor people who don't have anything.
Chandler, now in the third grade, is at an age now where it's not the coolest thing in the world to tell mom and dad everything. But there have been moments lately when none of her other siblings have been around that she finds Kellie and I and entrusts us with not just the basic activities of her day but also some of her deepest secrets.
Emme our youngest is in to everything. It started when we discovered that she has this thing about women's underwear. She came scampering down the hall with every pair that my wife owns draped around her kneck. Our little explorer doesn't miss a thing.
Looking at things from a different perspective so that you don't miss any details. Being sacrificial without having to be asked. Trusting enough to reveal your heart. Possessing an adventurous spirit that's not afraid to push the limits. I love sitting under the teaching of my kids.
