Sleep

As I sit writing these very words my youngest child Emme is entering the fourth hour of her nap.  She has taken four hour naps before but his one began after she was awake only a couple of hours after a 10+ hour night's sleep.  She's been a little under the weather and when she gets that way she would rather sleep than anything else.

My second oldest daughter Reynolds loves sleep too.  When she gets tired she tells you that it's time to go to bed and then that's just what she does.  If she has to stay up later than normal she can, but she would much rather curl up in bed and fall fast asleep.  If there is one drawback with her sleep habits it is that she likes to wake up a little too early for my liking to offset the extra sleep.

Sleep is a good thing.  I've heard that you need between 6-8 hours a night to remain healthy, but I also know of people who thrive on only a few hours a night.  I have no idea which theories regarding sleep are true, but I do know that if you don't get enough sleep then it will catch up to you.  I'm more of a morning person while my wife is a night owl, so I'm usually ready to go to bed earlier than she is so that I can wake up earlier.  I function okay with just a little bit of sleep but it usually catches up to me and to recover I will soon require a full night's sleep if not a nap.

Just as sleep is essential to our health and without it we are less than effective, the same can be said for our walk with Christ.  I try not to measure the amount of time that I spend with God.  What I mean is that my relationship with Christ is more than checking off verses from a list and calculating the time I spend in prayer.  Just like with sleep there are times where my communion with Him lasts a long time while at other times it's brief in comparison.  But one thing is for certain - if I don't spend time with my Lord then I know it.  My life stays out of balance and I am not the man that He has created me to be.  Man can't function without sleep.  Man also cannot truly live without fellowship with God.

My Story to Tell

I was hesitant at first to write this blog post. A big reason for that is because so many people have experienced a lot of life-altering eve...
