This will change your life

This morning as I was catching up on SportsCenter I saw a commercial that made a pretty bold claim.  It was for Direct TV and the commercial was advertising all the channels that one could have if they subscribed to their service.  The voice over at the end of the commercial said these words: "Direct TV.  It will change your life."

Direct TV will change my life?  I guess in a way television had changed all of our lives and what we do with our time, but I believe the claim made by Direct TV was more than just one of entertainment or convenience.  I love television, especially sports, but I can honestly say that I have yet to watch a program on cable that has radically altered my life (maybe that's why I need satellite TV).  This got me thinking of all the things that have changed my life way more than a television subscription:
  • Growing up in a home where both parents were present
  • Graduating from high school and college
  • Having open heart surgery in 1996
  • Getting married
  • Watching my wife give birth to our first child
  • Watching the births of our other three children
Those events were life altering to be sure, but they pale in comparison to the one encounter that has forever left me radically changed.  The day that I responded to the call of Jesus and surrendered my life to Him will forever be the most important and significant day of my life.  No matter what happens in the future or how many satellite dishes I decide to plant on my roof, everything I have ever done or could ever do takes a backseat to the knowing Jesus my Lord.  Now that's something that would make for a pretty good commercial.

My Story to Tell

I was hesitant at first to write this blog post. A big reason for that is because so many people have experienced a lot of life-altering eve...
